Fine motor skills with yarn and beads

My son is begging me to buy more yarn and beads.  He loves to sew and especially sew beads onto a piece of felt.

There are several reasons why I love the fact that he likes to do needlework.

1. Concentration: It forces him to concentrate onto a small, doable task without interruption.
2. Dexterity: It teaches him fine motor skill and the dexterity gained through that will come in handy for him all his life.
3. Life-Skills: When he is an independent adult he will be able to do minor repairs on his wardrobe. Mending a torn hem, or replacing a missing button will be a simple thing to him.

What do you do to help your young children practice their fine motor skills?
